Kremlin urges negotiations while Iran threatens retaliation if the U.S. intervenes militarily.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that the use of force against Iran “could only generate chaos in the region and have very dangerous consequences in terms of destabilizing security systems.”

Peskov pointed out that Russia urges all parties to show restraint and trusts that they will not use force to resolve existing problems, calling instead for dialogue.
“It is obvious that the potential for negotiations is far from exhausted and, of course, given that it is far from exhausted, we must focus above all on negotiation mechanisms,” he insisted.
On Wednesday, a political adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Tehran would attack Tel Aviv, U.S. targets and the targets of countries supporting Washington if the United States carries out a military intervention against Iranian territory.
Tensions between Iran and the United States are at one of the highest points in their history following President Donald Trump’s deployment of a naval fleet to the Middle East and threats to intervene militarily in the Persian country if it refuses to negotiate.
“A massive Armada is heading to Iran. It is moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose. It is a larger fleet, headed by the great Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln, than that sent to Venezuela. Like with Venezuela, it is, ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary,” he warned.
Trump ordered the deployment after protests that rocked the country since late December 2025 and were suppressed by the Islamic Republic. Tehran accuses the United States and Israel of using protests that began for economic reasons in an attempt to destroy the Islamic Republic.
